THE HARDEST STEP IS THE FIRST STEP OUT YOUR FRONT DOOR!

I can't believe it has been TWO WEEKS since Boston!  I thought May 1st would be a good day to turn over a new leaf and start running again.  I NEED a new running GOAL- something to keep me motivated.  I feel so much better when I'm running.

I felt like I was the Tin Man in Wizard of OZ the first mile.  It took a mile or two for my joints to feel oiled up again.  However, it felt good to finally get out there in the damp Spring air!

Sleep- I thought I would start tracking my sleep since I've been so TIRED since Boston.  Last night 1:30am-7:30am.  Dragging today.

35 min Tempo Treadmill Run. 8:30 pace for about 10 minutes.  Held it between 7:19 to 7:30 for about 20 minutes.  Back to 8:00 for the last 5 minutes.  PA- 7:32 (I had to take one break in the middle because my 3 yr old needed help with something.  I stopped the treadmill and then started back up again).

Sleep- fell asleep on my kids' floor around 10pm I think.  Woke at 12:15am with a kink in my neck.  3-yr-old woke up at 2:15am.  It wasn't very comfortable or continuous sleep, however, at least I got over 8 hours!

Nice and easy run in the misty humidity today with Aubree (who pushed 2 kids in a stroller).

 74 minutes.  PA 10:03

Sleep-  1:30am-7:00am.  I stayed up trying to get caught up on the papers that are piling on my desk.  No wonder I'm dragging.

1 mile warm up. 5k FUN RUN.  Unofficial time: 23:06.  PA - 7:26.

Aubree and I used the Cranbrook Fun Run for our beginning of training time trial.  It was a beautiful course.  I went out a little fast because I thought I was going to hit the clock on the right.  I got a side ache 1/2 way through.  Also, my vision seemed blurred - not because I was running fast but because I think I'm getting old and need contacts!

I had a lot left in me at the end, but I slowed down in the middle and walked up two hills.  I ran this pace several splits of my marathon.  I NEED TO WORK ON MENTAL STAMINA!  Any suggestions?

GOAL- 800m warm up @ 6.0 (10 min PA). 10x200m @ 12.0 (5 min PA).  800m cool down.

ACTUAL- 800m warm up @ 6.0 (min PA).  6x200m @ 12.0 This was probably a little shy of 200m.  I didn't feel like figuring out the math while I was running.  I started the sprint on every second minute and sprinted for about 35 seconds.  Then took the next minute and a half to catch my breath.  I had to hold on to the bar A LOT.  I've never run that fast on the treadmill before.  My legs are already feeling it.  I tripped the safety cord a couple of times and didn't finish the full 35 seconds on a couple as well.  I'm only counting 100m for those.  I tried cooling down but must have been kind of wobbly and tripped the cord again!  I only did 400 cool down.

Sleep- wha-hoo!  woke up once but got over 8 hours.  I was so tired last night from the weekend that I almost fell asleep in my clothes.

Tempo run. PA- 7:56. 2 miles warm up.  faster pace 2.5 miles. .5 cool down.

Franklin loop + Sandy Ln loop.  This was not a great course for tempo run. Pretty much up hill for the 2.5 tempo part.  Got a side cramp the last mile.  Beautiful spring morning!

Five miles slow today.  This was supposed to be our long run day, however, I cut it short so I could go on a pre-school field trip.

I love early morning runs - especially in the Spring.  It's lighter outside and the birds chirp their little songs in the quiet morning.

Early morning runs are great!  I love getting them over with before anyone wakes up.  Aubree and I met at the track @ 5:30am.

GOAL -800 warm up.  8x400. 800 cool down.

ACTUAL- 800 warm up. 3x400, bathroom break.  Saw Julie's tree. 1x800, 1x400, 1x800. 800 cool down.

Splits: 1:32, 1:35, 1:32, 3:18, 1:34, 3:20

I felt pretty good but still feel like I am in a pace rut.  How do I push myself to get out of it?

PA  7:56.  afternoon run.  sunny & windy.  There are so many rolling hills around here.  I tried having better form up the hills with quicker, smaller steps.  That seemed to help a lot and I didn't seem to tire as quickly.

I really slacked off last week.  The speed work wipes me out!  I've decided I can't do speed until Friday so I have the weekend to recover.

It felt good to get out in the sunshine today!  Thanks Aubree!
